Five days through the wild landscapes of northern Kenya
This 5 day northern Kenya safari connects three contrasting wildlife areas in one private journey: Meru National Park, Samburu National Reserve and Buffalo Springs National Reserve. Starting and ending in Nairobi, the itinerary spends two nights around Meru before continuing north for two nights in the Samburu and Buffalo Springs ecosystem.
The route is particularly rewarding for travellers who want to move beyond the most familiar southern safari circuit. Meru brings rivers, woodland, open grasslands, birdlife, rhino conservation and the historic Born Free story. Samburu then introduces the drier landscapes of northern Kenya, the Ewaso Nyiro River and wildlife specially adapted to semi arid country, including Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich.

Why this northern Kenya safari works
The itinerary gives Meru two nights rather than treating it as a quick transfer stop. That creates time for an arrival game drive followed by a fuller second day focused on the park and its rhino sanctuary. The journey then moves into the Samburu ecosystem, where two nights allow separate exploration of Samburu National Reserve and Buffalo Springs National Reserve before the return to Nairobi.
Meru National Park and rhino conservation
Meru is one of Kenya's most varied wilderness areas. Kenya Wildlife Service highlights its wildlife safaris, birding, rhino sanctuary and conservation heritage connected to George and Joy Adamson and Elsa the lioness. Read the official Kenya Wildlife Service Meru National Park guide for current park information and visitor guidance.
Samburu National Reserve and the Special Five
After Meru, the safari continues to Samburu National Reserve. The Ewaso Nyiro River is central to the reserve, creating a green wildlife corridor through otherwise dry country. For current destination information, see the Samburu County tourism guide.
Buffalo Springs National Reserve
Buffalo Springs lies on the southern side of the Ewaso Nyiro ecosystem opposite Samburu. Its dry plains, riverine vegetation and springs provide another perspective on northern Kenya wildlife and make the fourth safari day distinct from the previous day in Samburu.
Private 4x4 safari and accommodation style
This package is configured as a private mid range safari for two or more travellers. The planned accommodation style is a mid range tented camp around Meru and a mid range lodge in the Samburu and Buffalo Springs area. Named properties are treated as planning references rather than guarantees, and Euclea Safaris confirms the actual accommodation in the final quotation according to availability and the traveller's requirements.
The route uses a private pop up roof 4x4 safari vehicle for road transfers and game drives. Departure dates remain flexible subject to accommodation and park availability.
Who this safari suits
This route is a strong choice for couples, families and small private groups who want a less conventional Kenya safari. It is particularly suitable for wildlife enthusiasts interested in rhino conservation, northern Kenya species, birding and varied habitats.
