SAFARI AT A GLANCE
Spanning 365 square kilometres, Mukutan Conservancy (formerly known as Laikipia Nature Conservancy or Ol Ari Nyiro) lies on the dramatic eastern edge of the Great Rift Valley on the Laikipia Plateau, serving as a vital wildlife sanctuary and elephant breeding ground. This pristine conservancy is especially important for elephants, which migrate from surrounding regions to give birth in its safe and well-watered environment. As a critical water catchment area for Lake Bogoria and Lake Baringo, Mukutan plays a key ecological role while forming part of the globally significant Eastern Afromontane Biodiversity Hotspot. Rich in diverse flora and fauna, the conservancy protects one of the last remaining natural landscapes that once dominated the Laikipia Plateau and eastern Rift Valley escarpment, making it a remarkable destination for conservation-focused safaris, nature lovers, and eco-tourism enthusiasts.
